Meeting Minerva – A Guest Post From Lokantina

This guest post by Lokantina is part of a series celebrating the My Word Goddess Readings by honouring the gifts of the goddesses that stepped forward in 2014…. When Minerva’s beautiful owl flew towards me and alighted on my shoulder at the beginning of the year, I was a little unsure. I knew Owl medicine very well but had limited experience of connecting with Minerva. My understanding of her was of a Mighty Warrior and a Goddess of War. I didn’t have the heart or the strength or the energy or the desire for a full year of war and I wanted to let her bird fly free and leave me. I…

    Meanwhile, out in Rumi’s field…

Dance like no-one is watching. That’s what they say, isn’t it? When you’re afraid to let the true you out to play? Dance like no-one is watching, even if they are. Even if they laugh at you. Even if they try to shame you – all the while their own desire trails like an errant underskirt below the hem of an otherwise respectable garment. To break down, break out, break free… the moment of possibility pulses and wavers – a mirage that could be made real if only it were given credence. The paradigm shift to end all paradigm shifts. The dance floor is yours. Will you take to it?…

Maybe They Needed To Be Triggered: The Creative Impulse & Why You Need to Keep Sharing

Ix Chel stepped forward for my Goddess Guidance group today. She’s a creativity goddess whose energy is that of the upturned urn that ever flows – the womb that continually births new life, new energy into the world. As is so often the case when a goddess steps forward, she begins to show up in a number of surprising ways. Like this morning when my daughter, out of the blue, stated how, when she creates something new, she feels compelled to strive towards her own vision of perfection. Things have to be neatly finished off, fashioned cleanly, the form beautifully expressed and elegantly ended. I shared with her my favourite…

It’s OK Not To Want It All

It’s ok not to want it all. There’s nothing wrong with you if you don’t. When we marched for the vote, when we burned our bras, when we smashed those glass ceilings that promised ascension for some…. but not, it seemed, for you, when we created a plethora of opportunity for ourselves and our daughters, we were actually delivering the gift of choice. With every choice you make you are crafting your life. You are making a declaration of your existence, your difference, your presence here, right now. It’s ok not to want it all. There’s nothing wrong with you if you don’t. Because the choice to say no,…

Owning Every Step – A Journey Into Sovereignty

She caught my eye as the bus idled at the stoplight. It wasn’t her slightly outlandish clothes – one becomes anaesthetised to quirk in Edinburgh during August – it was the way each step she took seemed a weary yet inevitable risk that the ground wouldn’t rise up to meet her where she stood. Her pace was slow, her gait heavy and hesitant, the full sole of her foot connecting with the pavement simultaneously. No lightness, no bounce, no spring. Just the weighty awkward movement of a woman who appeared to no longer trust the earth beneath her feet. As I sat and watched her making her slow way past…
