Practical Magic

Singing Our Stories

I listen to music all day long. It is my constant companion. My ever-unfurling soundtrack. And because I work from home, music becomes the thread that weaves throughout my business. I think it helps me concentrate. I think it helps me think. In all honesty, I think it helps me breathe.

It’s always been this way. When I studied for my exams at school, Radiohead, Oasis, Pulp and Blur were my companions. When I researched archives at distant libraries, Death Cab For Cutie came along for the ride. And when I wrote my Phd thesis, it was Chopin’s compositions that orchestrated my sentences, setting the pace, piano key for keyboard letter.

So, when Spotify came on the scene, and I could compose playlists from such wide-ranging source material, I was in seventh heaven. I make playlists all the time. I constantly have a playlist that is in the process of creation. Playlists for every month. Playlists for the years. And then, there are the playlists just because. Playlists about home. Playlists about the sea. And now, a playlist to celebrate the next round of the Practical Magic Business Circle – a playlist about story.

I’m going to share a bit more about our theme of STORY for the next PMBC in a post next week, but until then, it is my hope that this playlist might carry you through the weekend and beyond. I hope it sings to you of the specialness of the stories you are telling through your life, through your business. I hope it accompanies you throughout your work days, inspiring you to claim full authorship over that which you are creating in this moment, and in all the moments still to come.
