Wishes, Intentions, Prayers

Stepping across the threshold, we all instantly fell into a reverential hush. And then even our whispers melted into silent awe as our eyes adjusted to the interior of the church.

It wasn’t fancy. Or elaborate. Certainly not ostentatious.

Instead, the elegant simplicity of the architecture, and the beauty of the light that streamed in through the tall windows that looked out onto the Atlantic, evoked a feeling of grace that felt like both a gift and a blessing. We stood, bathed in the silence and in the light… and in that moment we all knew what it meant to embraced by the sacred.

There was a small stand for votive candles with a few already burning, sending wishes, intentions, prayers up into the soft stillness of the air all around. Choosing a candle for myself, I dropped a couple of euros into the collection box, and placed my candle beside the others. Holding the match in my hand, I closed my eyes and sent out my own wishes, intentions, prayers for the Practical Magic Business Circle….

• May we all find ourselves beautifully met by each other, by ourselves, by the goddess.
• May we each reveal to ourselves a new depth of understanding about our gifts and the best ways to share them with the world.
• May the support we receive from our circle sisters heal any wounds that we may have received in previous experiences of feminine friendship and sisterhood.
• May we be open to the magic that is seeking to delight us.
• May we journey well through the coming months as we reclaim our light, practice healthy boundaries, honour our cycles, celebrate our creativity and lean into the wisdom of our bodies.

The struck match flared briefly before I held it to the wick, and the little candle was soon alight. I stood watching it for a moment or two…. before sending out my gratitude for the meeting of my prayers. I left my little light burning in the ancient church of Talmont-sur-Gironde, watched over by the divine and held in the grace of the goddess.
