Rhiannon Reflections – A Guest Post from Mary Lunnen

This guest post by Mary Lunnen is part of a series celebrating the My Word Goddess Readings by honouring the gifts of the goddesses that stepped forward in 2014….

2014 was the first time I had received a ‘goddess for the year’ from Amy Palko. Rhiannon is the Welsh horse goddess. Looking back now and reflecting, I feel that, a year ago, I had intentions of becoming clear, moving forward with ease towards my desires. I am not sure if I ever did get really clear about “What it is that you desire.”

What I have done is being able to sit with what was, what is, with ease. To accept and still move on; to just be and be comfortable with that. In a world that seems sometimes to rush wildly towards the next thing, maybe I at last found – for a while at least – a way of stopping. Stopping and asking, as the prince does in the story. For the moment the simple answer has been enough. What I desire – for the last year, and maybe the next too – is more rest, more simplicity, time to think. The ability not to then search for something more ‘worthy’ as a desire; something bigger, grander.

This year has been about being able to stop, and then to take small steps. Sometimes those small steps have been a dead-end, and because I haven’t rushed in that has been fine. An interesting diversion before returning to…. to what? I still don’t know, and maybe I never will in truth.

As I write this I can see how much Rhiannon has been present supporting me, even when I did not consciously think about the goddess and her story. My self-confidence in my own work has risen: “This isn’t about running full steam ahead after your dream – this is about inviting your dream into your waking reality. She’s also going to be supporting you as you build your self-confidence so that you truly believe that you deserve that which you desire.”

Now, looking forward to 2015, with another goddess by my side, I feel the gentle guidance of Rhiannon will stay with me. Thank you Amy.
